Your Fathers Moustache and Realty Partner Rinkrats open the season.
Lake City Hockey begin it's 35th Season; Rematch of Lake City Cup Final as the Moustache takes on Rinkrats; Mariners humble Wild Turkey's; Sold Signs and Alpines do a little overtime;
New Player Eligibility Rule; 2015-16 Budget.The 35th Season of Lake City Hockey began on Tuesday, October 6th, with a rematch of last season Lake City Cup Final.
The 2015 Champions, Your Fathers Moustache doubled up on Realty Partner Rinkrats 10 to 5.
YFM's Stewart MacRae and Neal Pashkowski led the way with 3 goals and 4 assists each. Aaron Akitt found the net twice and Sean Fraser, Jamie Caron popped singles.
Rinkrats had five different goal scorers, Blake Trask having 1 goal and 2 assists.
Thursday saw the Secunda Mariners triple up on the Wild Turkey's 9 to 3.
The Wild had a 3 to 2 lead after the 1st period, on goals by Nick Young, Colton Denman and Sandy Sheffer. Dean Tucker had both goals for the Mariners.
Secunda would score 7 unanwsered 2nd period goals. Tyler Hawes had the hattrick, including the game winner. Graeme Power buried a pair, with Cole Hawes and Kyle Morash adding singles.
The nightcap saw some overtime action as the Realty Partners Sold Signs came back late and defeated the Dartmouth Alpines 4 to 3.
The teams were tied at 2 a piece after the 1st period . Ryan Morris and Scott MacDonald scoring for the Sold Signs, while Nick Croft found the twine twice for the Alpines.
Dartmouth jumped out to a 3 to 2 lead, only 44 seconds into the 2nd, on Phil Diochon 1st of the season.
The action went back and forth, with Sold Signs giving a hard push late and it paid off, as Tyson Aalders tied the game at 3 with 1:12 remaining in regulation time, forcing our first overtime of the season.
Realty Partners took a penalty only 38 seconds into the overtime period, giving the Alpines a great chance to win the game.
Sold Signs Stu Lenehan blocked a shot from the point and would go in on a breakaway and score the shorthanded winner.
The League has changed the Player Eligibility Rule; now each team is allowed 2 players 20 to 24 years of age to play for their team. Teams will let the League President know what players are under age and will record it on game reports and our website.
Unfortunately the League was unable to get all 3 games on one night only or move their time allocations earlier.
City arenas have to allow minor sports organizations first choice of time, up to 10:00pm at night.
This season Budget is $5,600.00 for each team; start collecting or paying.
