Game 1 of Best of 3 Semi Finals begin; Moustache blank Rinkrats; Mariners comeback for an OT win on the Sold Signs.The 2016 Semi Finals began Tuesday, with the Realty Partner Rinkrats taking on Your Fathers Moustache, in the Best of 3 Series and a rematch of last years Lake City Cup Finals.
The Moustache, led by a Kody Cuvelier shutout, downed the Rinkrats 5 to 0.
Aaron Akitt and Neal Pashkoski each fired a pair and Terry Forbes had the game winner in YFM's victory.
The game was closer then the score indicated. The Moustache were able to capitalize on their chances and the Rinkrats could not get by strong defensive play and Kody Cuvelier.
The Rinkrats will try to force a 3rd game on Thursday.
The other Semi Final had the Realty Partners Sold Signs take on the Secunda Mariners.
Sold Signs jumped out early, only 18 seconds into it, on a blast from Stu Lenehan.
They would open up a 6 to 3 1st period lead on goals from; Josh Coleman, with two, Peter MacKay, Tyson Aalders and a second one from Stu Lenehan.
The Mariners countered with Chris O'Donnell and a pair from Evan Cheverie.
The Signs would have two 3 goal leads that period, by scores of 4 to 1 and 6 to 3.
The 2nd period saw the Mariners pop 2 goals 18 seconds apart, 17:20 and 17:02, on goals from Tyler Hawes and Dean Tucker.
Secunda would tie the game at 6, around the half way mark of the period, as Kyle Morash found the twine.
Ryan Morris of Sold Signs made the score 7 to 6 with 8:26 remaining in regulation time.
Mariners' Tyler Hawes would tie it at 7, with 3:57 on the clock, only to have Ryan Fortune restore the one goal lead for Realty Partners, 49 seconds later.
Secunda would go on the powerplay with 2:45 remaining and it would pay off, as Evan Cheverie would tie it at 8 goals apiece on his hattrick goal.
This game needed overtime, and despite trailling all game and coming back to tie it four times. The Secunda Mariners would take Game 1, on Evan Cheverie's 4th of the game, with 2:29 remaining in the 10 overtime period.
The final score would be 9 to 8 for the Mariners and will hope to eliminate the Sold Signs on Thursday.
