Game 2 of the 2016 Lake City Cup Final; Moustache repeat as Champions defeating Mariners 4 to 2 and winning series 2 games to 0.Game 2 of the 2016 Lake City Cup Final was played Tuesday night between Your Fathers Moustache and Secunda Mariners. The Moustache holding a one game to none lead, after winning Game 1 on Sunday, 4 to 3.
With the Lake City Cup in the house and the Your Fathers Moustache looking to repeat as champions, they jumped out to a 1 to 0 lead, just 55 seconds in to the game, when Aaron Akitt with a quick release, from a Terry Forbes pass, beat Andrew Sim.
The 1st period, just like game 1, was a high tempo pace, with both teams having great chances, only to have Mariners' Sim and Kody Cuvelier of the Moustache making great saves.
The Secunda Mariners would tie the game at one, a minute and 34 seconds in. Evan Cheverie blasting one past Cuvelier, Cole Hawes and Jim Morash with helpers.
Only 1:54 later the Moustache would regain the lead, on a goal from Sean Fraser, Akitt and Brad Stewart adding assists.
YFM opened up a 3 to 1 lead at 7:46 of the 2nd period, as Neal Pashkoski would find the twine for the second time in the Final. Stewart MacRae and Jamie Caron would contribute in the goal.
The Mariners looking to avoid elemination, started to push back and were rewarded as Rob Sneath beat Cuvelier to narrow the score to 3 to 2. Cole Hawes would get his second helper of the game, as well as Jordan Cox chipping in.
Secunda continued to press and would pull goaltender Andrew Sim for an extra attacker.
Kody Cuvelier would stand tall for the Mostache and felt a little relief when Stewart MacRae popped an unassisted empty net goal, with 44 seconds remaining in regulation time.
The arena clock would hit 0:00 and Your Fathers Moustache would capture their second Lake City Cup in a row, with a two game sweep of the Secunda Mariners. It would be the franchises 6th Lake City Cup Championship, tying them with the Rangers for most Lake City Cup victories.
Neal Pashkoski was named the 2016 Playoff's Most Valuable Player.
Neal, in 7 games, scored 10 goals, had 6 assists for 16 points, including 5 powerplay goals and 3 game winning goals, 2 of which were in the Lake City Cup Final.
