Secunda Mariners take Game 1 of the Lake City Cup over the Realty Partners Sold Signs.
Game 1 of the 2017 Lake City Cup between the Secunda Mariners and the Realty Partners Sold Signs got under way Tuesday night.
The Sold Signs opened the scoring a minute and thirty two seconds in the 1st period from a goal by Ryan Morris. However that was short lived as Kyle Morash of the Mariners tied it at 1, 27 seconds later.
Realty Partners failed to beat Mariners goaltender Mark Cheverie on two breakaways and that seemed to change the momentum, as the Mariners would score 3 more times before the end of the 1st period.
Evan Cheverie made it 2 to 1 at 8:31, followed by Cole Hawes with 2:12 remaining and then by Evan Cheverie's 2nd of the game at 1:07, this would end up being the game winner.
Secunda opened up the 2nd period with a couple more goals, opening up a 6 to 1 lead. Brad Ryckmond and Jordan Cox finding the twine.
Sold Signs buried their 2nd goal of the game as Tyson Aalders just getting out of the penalty box roofed one past Cheverie.
The Mariners attack continued as Tyler Hawes scored his first goal of the Lake City Cup Final followed by Brad Ryckmond's 2nd of the game, giving Secunda an 8 to 2 lead.
Both teams would exchange one more goal each, Stu Lenehan for the Sold Signs and Tyler Hawes with his second of the game.
The final score in Game 1 was 9 to 3 for the Secunda Mariners.
Game 2 will go on Thursday night, as the Mariners look to caputure their 6th Lake City Cup.
