Share 25th Season and Counting
2006-11-01
The 2006 -07 season sees the Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League celerbrating it's 25th season as a league.
The schedule on this site is a 18 game schedule per team, all teams have indicated that they would like a 20 game schedule, which has been drawn up but not yet on the site. Last season we had a 18 game schedule and some teams still had not paid their league fee until the start of this season. The league puts out a challenge to all the teams. If all teams have their league fee paid for an 18 game schedule, which concludes on February 6th 2007, we will go to a 20 game schedule. The cost of 18 game schedule per team is $4,135.00 and $4,440.00 for a 20 game schedule, team payments will be posted at the end of each month. It's up to you 18 or 20.
The league starts it's 4th year in a row with seven teams, back again are the defending Lake City Cup Champions Dartmouth Alpines, their 8th season in the league, Scotiabank back for it's 7th season, the Rinkrats, formally known as the T.J. Devils 14th season, the Big Leagues' Rangers starting their 17th season, Your Fathers Moustache in it's 19th season, Secunda Mariners season 21 and the Moose Light Shamrocks formally known as the Sandtrap Chiefs, starting their 22nd season the league. Congratulations to both the teams and it's players past and present, as well as the Dartmouth Sportsplex, home of the Lake City Gents, celebrating their 25th year as well.
With the folding of the CEHL, the league and teams welcome back some of their players as well as some new players from the league.
This season the CAHA Officals has informed the league that one of their new mandates is for zero tolerance to stick infractions. This means if a player puts their stick on opposing player they can expect a minor penalty. In the month of October, teams found out really fast that they need to work on their powerplay. Of the 118 minor penalties called in just 12 games played, 44 were for hooking. Players are starting to get use to what they can get away with and what they can't. Despite the amount of minor penalties being called, several teams like the fact that they can be more wide open in their play.
The 25th season started on Tuesday, October 10, with the Rinkrats, on a 5 goal, 1 assist performance from Ryan McLellen defeat the Secunda Mariners 10 to 7. Powerplays were clicking with the Mariners going 4 for 5 opportunities and the 'rats 2 for 5.
Opps..... we forgot something? The second game on opening night had the defending champion Alpines having to forfeit it's game with the Shamrocks because they did not have a goaltender.
Week one concluded on Thursday, with Your Fathers Moustache, led by last season MVP and leading scorer, Sean Fraser scoring the trick and adding a helper in a 6 to 4 victory over Scotiabank. Powerplays not so graet in this game, Moustache 0 for 7 and Scotiabank 1 for 8.
In the night cap the beefed up Rangers thumped the Rinkrats 7 to 2. The addition of Scott Allison, Jeff MacLeod and Brian Urqhart to the Rangers, lets the other teams of the league that they are going to be tough to beat.
Week two started out with the Secunda coming back from a 4 to 1 deficeit to defeat the Shamrocks 6 to 5. Keifer House pops the hattrick in the win.
Big Leagues' continue to flex their museles with another 7 to 2 thumping, this time against Your Fathers Moustache.
The Rinkrats proved to be pests all night to the Dartmouth Alpines as both teams played to 3 all overtime draw. The Rinkrats penalty killing was very sharp as they killed off all 10 penalties.
In the last game of week two had the Mariners playing their second game of the week. Continuing their momentum from Tuesday night they steamroll Scotiabank 10 to 4, scoring 7 goals in the second period and having eight different goal scorers. This game saw only 2 minor penalties, both to the Mariners, which allowed Scotiabank to go 2 for 2 on the powerplay.
Week three was a short week with only 2 games on Tuesday and none on Thursday due to the Dartmouth Sportsplex's Christmas Craft Show.
In the first game the Shamrocks did not need much luck as the pasted Your Fathers Moustache 8 to 2. Jason Troini's 4 goals, 2 assists and Roddy MacCormick's 1 goal, 4 assists led the attack for Moose Light.
In the second game saw the Big Leagues' Rangers remain undeafed and in first place as they doubled up on Scotiabank 8 to 4. It was their third straight game that they have scored 7 or more goals for.
The month of October ended on Halloween night which may explain somethings?
In a rematch of last season Lake City Cup Final the Dartmouth Alpines downed the Secunda Mariners 7 to 4. Mariners spring a leak? Secunda trailling 5 to4 late in the game took 2 minor penalties on the same play to be down 2 players with 3:46 remaining. This ignited the bench, with 3 players ending up getting suspended. Mariners' John Robb one game for a game misconduct, Sandor Fizli three games for a gross misconduct, awarded to him when he threw a water bottle out on the ice and Steve Widmeyer five games for receiving a double gross misconduct, after throwing out several hockey sticks on the ice.
In the late game, the Rinkrats edged out Scotiabank 5 to 4. Scotiabank rallied from 4 to 1 to tie it at 4 with 5 minutes remaining, only to have the Rinkrats score at the 3 minute mark, on Sean Buckley's first goal of the season. Scotiabank still looking for their first deposite of points.
Player of the Month for October is Moose Light Shamrocks goaltender Jason White, who not only tended goal for his team, but also played for the Alpines and Rangers twice and the Mariners once. Thanks Jason and family!
Payments so far from teams as follow: Alpines - $1020.00, Moustache - $930.00, Rinkrats - $1119.00, Shamrocks $1040.00, Scotiabank - $0, Rangers - $0, Mariners - $0.
This concludes October's recap, and remember keep your sticks down and 18 or 20 game schedule.
