Share Sportsplex Not Impressed
2004-11-10
I received a second phone call this season, on Friday, November 5th, 2004, from the Dartmouth Sportsplex management, telling me that their staff is having a hard time getting the players out of the building after the last game on Thursday nights. Last Thursday was the second offence, they tell me players were giving the staff member a hard time, as if he was incoveniecing us, hurling insaults. The Sportsplex, as well as many other rinks, allows for 1 half hour after your rental to vacate a dressing room, we're no better than anyone else. Due to the abuse and the overtime that the staff member had to remain, until all of our players left, the Sportsplex has told me that they are charging an extra half hour of ice cost ($90.00) to our monthly bill and will continue to do so if it occurs again.
The league has not budgeted for any extra cost, so starting on Tuesday, November 16th, 2004 at 8:30pm, I have instructed our league timekeeper to sound the horn when the ice resurfacer has left the ice. He will then set the clock for a 3 minute warm up, sound the horn, then set the clock to 20:00 minute mark. If the referees are ready but the teams are not he will start the clock. It has become that teams are taking their time to get out and get started, I have seen the some games not start sometimes until 10 or 15 minutes past their start times due to this.
With reguards to the staying late in the dressing rooms after the last game of the evening. The league will absorb the extra cost of November 5th, 2004, but if the league should receive another charge for being late in the dressing rooms, the league will put that charge on the two teams that play the last game of the night.
Guys the Sportsplex have not kicked us off the ice at 11:00pm or 11:30pm if our games have run over that time. They still allow us to bring in our favorite beverage for after the game, and I can tell you several rinks do not allow that any more. We as a league are playing our 23rd season in the Dartmouth Sportsplex, lets show some respect to the building and it's staff.
Thank You
