Playoff Format 2011

2010-12-29

Lake City Cup

Playoff Format. Canada Games 2011. Final Budget. Who's Paid.

The 2010-11 regular season is flying by, with the league down to 6 teams; it doesn’t take long to go through a schedule.

A lot of questions about the playoff format and how it’s going to work. Every team will have a chance to win the Lake City Cup. This year’s playoff will start with each team playing 3 games, so all teams are at least guaranteed 3 games, not like past seasons where it was best 2 of 3 games. The 1st round will be a round robin format where the top 3 teams in the final regular season standings will play each of the bottom 3 teams in the final regular season standings once. The games will be like the regular season, where if a game is tied they will go to a 5 minute overtime period and play 4 on 4, if still tied, it will remain that way. If one team wins they will be awarded 2 points and the loser will still get one point. After the round robin round is finished, the top 4 teams in the standings will advance to the next round and play a best 2 out of 3 format, 4th versus 1st and 3rd versus 2nd. Overtime, if needed, will run as follow: 10 minute straight time period and play 5 on 5, if still tied, there will be a 5 different player shootout for each team. If game is still tied the shootout will continue one at a time until a winner has been determined, teams can re-use any of their first 5 players for a second time, but have to go through the whole team before they can be used for a third time. The 2 winners of the Semi- Final will play for the Lake City Cup, in the best 2 out of 3 final.

Due to the Canada Games being held at the Dartmouth Sportsplex this February, most of our playoffs will be in held in March.
