Chiefs Keep Rolling

The Sandtrap Chiefs' franchise is celebrating their 20th season in the Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League and are off to their best start ever in their long history. The Chiefs started out Tuesday winning their 8th straight game, by pouncing on Scotiabank 7 to 2. League leading point leader Roddy MacCormick continued his torrid scoring by finding the twine 4 times and chipping in with a helper. Shane Gibbs, Trevor Doyle and Brian McIntoch rounded out the scoring for Sandtrap. Mike MacIssac and Todd Miles replied for Scotiabank.
In the earlier game on Tuesday had long time rivals the Dartmouth Alpines downing the Big Leagues' Rangers 7 to 3. Alpines' Jay Washington led the attack, scoring a hattrick and 1 assist. Chris Boutilier added a pair, with Graham McLeod and Todd Parker adding singles, in the win. The Rangers lost their 3rd straight, had goals from Richie Holmes, Mark Whebby and Reg Bowes.

Thursday night started out with Scotiabank rebounding from Tuesday loss, scoring 5 unanswered goals in the 2nd period, to defeat the T.J. Devils 5 to 1. Danny Brewer led all goal scorers with 2, while Troy Stevens, Allen Coyle and Doug Mollon also scored for Scotiabank. Steve Kinch had the lone marker for the Devils.
In the second game of the night, the Dartmouth Alpines score 4 goals in a minute and 42 seconds, to take a 4 to 0 lead, early in the first period. The Alpines however could not hold that lead and fell to the Secunda Mariners 7 to 5, in a impressive comeback victory. Mariners' Doug Clark and Dana Drake each had 2 goals, while Keifer House, Andy Clark and Rick Findley also found the net. Dartmouth had 5 different goal scorers; Peter Gallant, Graham McLeod, Jay Washington, Scott MacKinnon and Terry MacDonald. The loss was a set back to keep pace with the Sandtrap Chiefs for first place.
The final game of the night had the Chiefs win their 9th in a row, with a 10 to 6 shootout against Your Fathers Moustache. Roddy MacCormick popped in 5 goals and 3 assists, with line mate Mike Johnson collecting a goal and 5 assists. Mark Walsh, Paul Wright, Darryl Braine and Shane Gibbs contributed to the win. Moustache's Andrew MacVicar and Jeff Norrie each had a pair, with Marlo Downey and Justin Brown potting one each. The win gives the Chiefs a 5 point lead over 2nd place Alpines. Darryl Braine, Bill Morris and Kelly Saunders, the three remaining originals, playing in their 20th season with the Chiefs franchise hope the celebration continues.
