Goals Aplenty for the Alpines

The holiday break now over, it's time to get back to business. With roughly 10 games remaining for all the teams, teams will be trying to better themselves in the standings for the playoffs. Currently the Sandtrap Chiefs lead the standings with 12 wins and 2 losses for 24 points, the Secunda Mariners are in 2nd place 10-5-0-0 = 20, Dartmouth Alpines 3rd with 9-4-1-0 = 19, Big Leagues' Rangers hold down 4th spot 6-8-0-1 = 13, Scotiabank 1 point back at 5-7-2-0 = 12, T.J. Devils are in 6th place with 4-10-1-1 = 10, while Your Fathers Moustache are in the basement 1-11-2-0 = 4.

Tuesday, January 4th, 2005 started with a big game between 4th place Rangers taking on 5th place Scotiabank. The Rangers jumped out to a 2 to 0 lead after the 1st on goals by Mike Regimbal and Brian Melanson. Scotiabank rallied in the 2nd to take a 4 to 3 lead with 8 minutes remaining in regulation time, Todd Miles had 2, Don Murray and Rodney MacIntosh had singles. The Rangers tied it at 4 on a goal by Jim Morash. The only penalty of the game proved to be costly for Scotiabank as Mark Whebby popped what turned out to be the game winner for Big Leagues. Allan Lake and Brian Wells empty netter also scored for the Rangers, moving them 3 points up on Scotiabank in the standings.
The second game of the night had the 3rd place Alpines hosting 2nd place Mariners. This game was not a good game for the goaltenders as Dartmouth  finished ahead of Secunda in a shootout 9 to 8. Darren Welsh led the Alpine attack with 3 goals and an assist, Jay Washington had a pair, with Graham McLeod, Scott Wadden, Peter Gallant and Dwight Lucas finding the net as well. Keifer House pulled the trick for the Mariners, Jeff Crowell had 2, while Andrew Hawrylak, Shawn Doyle, and Sandor Fizli added singles. The win moved Dartmouth into 2nd place, 1 point up on Secunda.

Thursday night had the Alpines continue their scoring outburst by pounding long time rival Big Leagues' Rangers 8 to 1. Dave Fader of the Alpines scored 3 goals and added 2 assists, Todd Parker contributed with a pair and singles going to Jeff Bigelow, Jay Washington and Darren Welsh. Rangers lone goal was by Craig Vincent.
The Sandtrap Chiefs started the second half of the season with a 9 to 2 pasting of Your Fathers Moustache. Team captain Darryl Braine scored a hattrick, with Gord Dickie, Paul Wright, and Roddy MacCormick finding the twine twice. John Hoage tapped both goals for the Moustache.
In the final game of the night, Scotiabank scored 3 goals in a minute and nine seconds, starting at the 5:12 mark of the 2nd period, to tie the game at 5. The goal blitz helped Scotiabank to a 7 to 5 win over the T.J. Devils. Scotiabank's Mike MacIssac led the attack with 2 goals and 3 assists. Don Murray, Allen Coyle, Todd Miles, Rodney MacIntosh and Glen Buchanan also scored in the victory. T.J. Devils Josh Boulton had a couple goals, while Matt Boulton added 1 goal and 4 assists, Danny Puma and Chris O'Donnell rounded out the scoring for the Devils.
