Playoff Preview '05

The 2005 Lake City Cup Playoffs start this week, with the best of 3 Quarter Final match-ups.
 
Starting with Series 'A': Your Fathers Moustache (7th) vs Dartmouth Alpines (2nd). The Dartmouth Alpines start their defence of the Lake City Cup, looking to win their forth straight championship. The Alpines had their way with Your Fathers Moustache for the most part this season, winning 3 games and tying 1, out scoring the Moustache 36 to 12. Keys: The Alpines have been successful over the years because of their depth. Led by Jay Washington, their top scorer with 38 goals, 23 assists for 61 points, Dartmouth throws 3 solid lines at you. Scott MacDonald, in his first season with the Alpines, has backstopped the team to a second place finish and has his only shutout against Your Fathers Moustache.
Your Fathers Moustache have their hands full, but did show they can play with the Alpines in a 6 all tie. The Moustache will need to bring their 'A' game and hope for the upset in the short series. Mike Shea led the team in scoring, while Andrew MacVicar was their top goal scorer with 11. Veteran goaltender Robert Naugle will have to keep his team in it early or it could be an early exit from the playoffs. The Moustache also have some ill feelings towards the Alpines, feeling Dartmouth ran up the score in a couple of their games.

Series 'B': T.J. Devils (6th) vs Secunda Mariners (3rd). The Mariners had a clean sweep of Devils during the regular season, going 4 and 0. In three of those games they won by only by a goal. Secunda out scored the Devils 29 to 18, thanks to a 9 to 1 victory in their last meeting of the year. Keys: The Mariners were once again led by Keifer House, 28 goals, 21 assists for 49 points in 16 games. Playing in his first full season was Dana Drake, who managed 19 goals, 28 assists for 47 points. The Mariners will need every body to show up for success in the playoffs. Goaltender Corey Irving will be tested often from the Devils, who just won't go away without a fight.
The T.J. Devils will need to keep their discipline, they can not afford to give the Mariners too many powerplays. T.J.'s were led by Steve Kinch with 13 goals, 14 assists for 27 points. The Devils will need to keep the score close to be able to pull off the upset. Jamie O'Donnell will be busy in goal for the Devils and can steal a game for them.

Series 'C': Scotiabank (5th) vs Big Leagues' Rangers (4th). In what could be the closest series of the Quarter Finals, Scotiabank and the Rangers split their season series at 2 wins apeice. Scotiabank winning the first two games by scores of 6 to 3 and 5 to 2, with the Rangers winning the last two games 6 to 4 and 5 to 1, for a total of 16 goals each. Keys: For the Rangers to advance they will have to stay out of the penalty box, too much time shorthanded will be their short coming. The Rangers will be led again by Reg Bowes, 24 goals, 19 assists for 43 points. Big Leagues strong point will be their defensive style they play in front of goaltender Paul Forest.
Scotiabank gives everybody a good game, despite their record, losing alot of games by a goal. Danny Brewer was their top scorer, with 13 goals, 22 assists for 35 points. Scotiabank never gives up and this will have to continue, as well as putting alot of pressure on Rangers goalie Paul Forest. Peter Douglas will be asked to keep the game close, giving them a chance for the win. Flip a coin for the winner of this series.
