The Quarter Finals continued on Tuesday, with the Dartmouth Alpines looking to sweep Your Fathers Moustache and the winner of the T.J. Devils versus Secunda Mariners game 3 to advance to the Semi Finals.
The Dartmouth Alpines completed the two game sweep over Your Fathers Moustache with a 5 to 3 victory. The Alpines scored only 31 seconds from the start of the game, on a goal by Peter Gallant, his 2nd of the series. Sean Fraser tied the game at one at 14:33 in the 1st. Glen MacDonald restored the one goal lead for Dartmouth, only to be tied up again by Graham Sponagle of the Moustache. Glen MacDonald scored his 2nd of the game and gave the Alpines a 3 to 2 lead heading into the 2nd period.
Your Fathers Moustache would not go away quietly and tied the game at 3, on Sean Fraser 2nd goal of the game and 4th of the series at 14:59. The Alpines would take the lead for good 1:07 later as Jay Washington found the twine. Dwight Lucas added an insurance goal with 4:27 remaining in regulation time.
The game was a chippy afair as both team had 9 penalties each.
The 3rd and final game between T.J. Devils and Secunda Mariners was the late game. The 6th place Devils giving the 3rd place Mariners all they could handle in the first 2 games.
Like game 2 the Mariners jumped out to a 3 to 0 lead on goals by Doug Clark, John Robb in the 1st period and Andy Clark early in the 2nd period.
The Devils broke the goose egg at 12:43 on a shot from Tony Breau past goalie Corey Irving. The goal seem to spark T.J's as they began to press Secunda.
The Devils followed up the goal with a 2 man advantage, but failed to score. The Devils narrowed the score to 3 to 2 on Tony Breau 2nd of the game and 5th of the series at 8:50.
The Mariners weathered the storm and eliminated the Devils with Jeff Crowell's empty net goal with 31 seconds remaining.
The Secunda Mariners advance to the Semi Finals to have a rematch, of last years Lake City Cup Final, with the Dartmouth Alpines. The Best of 3 Semi Final starts on Thursday.
The 1st place Sandtrap Chiefs are waiting for the winner of the Scotiabank versus Big Leagues' Rangers series, which is tied at 1 game apiece. Game 3 goes on Thursday.
