Rinkrats Upset!

The Secunda Mariners keep sailing along, this time sinking the Bacardi Rangers 7 to 3 on Tuesday night. 2 goals each from Jay Casivi and Gary Zinck led the Mariners to victory. Shane Murphy was the Rangers top point getter, with a couple of helpers.

The Dartmouth Alpines remained undefeated and kept hold of 1st place with a 5 to 2 win over Scotian Canadians. Dartmouth spread out the offence with 5 different goal scorers. Dwight Lucas, Glenn MacDonald and Graham MacLeod all contributed with a couple of assists each. The Canadians replied with goals from Todd Miles and Troy Stevens.
Alpines' Jeff Bigelow was handed a 1 game suspension, following a major and game misconduct he received in the 2nd period of the game.

Thursday night was no better for the slumping Rangers, as they lost their fourth in a row. Your Fathers Moustache moved above 500 with a 4 to 1 win over Bacardi. Sean Fraser scored the teams first 3 goals and then set up their 4th. Mark Whebby of Bacardi scored a powerplay goal. The Rangers have been out scored 28 to 12 over the last 4 game losing streak.

The Rinkrats, behind stellar goaltending from Andy Arsenault upset last season regular season champions Moose Light Shamrocks 5 to 3. It was the Rinkrats first win or point of the season. The 'rats jumped out to 3 to 0 lead midway through the 1st period only to have the Shamrocks tie the game at 3 a minute into the final frame. The Rinkrats held the fort the rest of the way and scored what has to be the strangest goal of the season for the game winner. While killing a penalty Colin Peters shot the puck from his own end down the ice only to have it take a funny bounce off the ice and past Moose Light's goaltender Jason White. The Rinkrats' penalty killing was right on as they killed all 6 penalties and scored a shorthanded goal.
