Shamrocks clinch second place.
Canadians claim fifth place downing the Moustache.
Shamrocks and Mariners close out the season.
Sean Fraser and Keifer House battle for scoring title. The final week of the 2007-2008 regular season had alot of questions to be answered. What teams would finish 2nd , 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th?, we already know the Dartmouth Alpines finished in 1st place and that the Rinkrats would finish in 7th place. Who would win this seasons scoring race between Secunda Mariners' Keifer House and Your Fathers Moustache's Sean Fraser?
Tuesday night had the Bacardi Rangers looking to finish in 5th place ahead of Scotian Canadians, who trailled by 2 points. The Rangers also were looking to stop the bleeding of a 5 game losing streak, had to take on the Dartmouth Alpines. In a meaningless game for the Alpines, they refused to roll over and downed the Rangers 8 to 5. Dartmouth's Peter Gallant had the hot stick, scoring their last 3 goals, also scoring were Jay Washington, Graham MacLeod, Chris Boutilier, Todd Parker and Dwight Lucas. Bacardi's losing streak continued, now at 6, had scoring from Scott Allison, Jim Morash, Dale O'Brien, Allan Lake and Reg Bowes.
The Rangers would now have to wait to see if the Scotian Canadians either lost or tied in their game on Thursday against Your Fathers Moustache.
In the nightcap the Moose Light Shamrocks clinched 2nd place with 11 to 8 victory in a high scoring affair against the Rinkrats. The Shamrocks, who will now face the Rinkrats in the quarter finals, had 3 goals each from Trevor Doyle and Shane Gibbs, while Paul Wright had a couple and Jules Laraque, Sebastien Decaens, Jason Troni added singles. The Rinkrats had scoring from Justin Dowding and Colin Peters each with 2, Jon Dean, Craig Stevens, Kelly Serbu and Brad MacDonald also found the net past Jason White. The Rinkrats, hope now that the regular season is over can start fresh in the playoffs.
On Thursday, more questions were answered, starting with the game between Your Fathers Moustache and Scotian Canadians. The Canadians needing a win to claim 5th place from the Rangers, due to the tie breaker being most wins. The Moustache were hoping for the same thing, needing to win to move into a tie with 3rd place Secunda Mariners and hoping they would lose to the Shamrocks in the late game.
The winner was ...... the Canadians defeating the Moustache 7 to 4 and claiming 5th place. With that result the final standings and playoff match-ups have been decided. Alpines 1st place and a quarter final bye, Shamrocks 2nd place and will take on the 7th place Rinkrats, 3rd place went to the Mariners and will face 6th place Rangers and 4th place Moustache will play 5th place Canadians.
Scotian had seven different goal scorers, Doug Mollon, Danny Brewer, Troy Stevens, Mike MacIssac, Mike Sim, Dwayne Coyle and Don Murray.
In another race to be decided was the scoring title, with Moustache's Sean Fraser 1 point behind Mariners' Keifer House going into the final night of the regular season. Sean didn't disappoint scoring 2 goals and adding an assist to move 2 points up on Keifer. Glenn Dahlgren and Trent Boswick also scored for YFM.
In what would be the final game of the 2007-08 Lake City regular season the only thing left to be decided was the scoring crown. The Moose Light Shamrocks nipped the Secunda Mariners 3 to 2 to close out the season. The Shamrocks had goals from Jason Troini, Craig Whynot and Paul Wright. Mariners' Keifer House hoping to catch Moustache's Sean Fraser, fell short, only managing to get a goal, Jamie Wood had Secunda's other goal.
