It Must Be Playoff Time!

If the first week of the 2014 Lake City Cup Playoffs are any indication for the Cup, then it should be an exciting spring.

Game 1 of the Round Robin Tournament, where the bottom 3 teams during the regular season take on the top 3 teams, with the top 4 teams advancing to the Semi Finals.

The 4th Place Dartmouth Alpines opened up against the #2 seed Realty Partner Rinkrats on Tuesday night.

The Rinkrats struck first on a goal by Chris MacNeil, just over halfway in the 1st period. The Alpines answered back 2 minutes later with a powerplay goal by Steve Nelson's shot from the point. Dartmouth taillied 2 more times before the period ended, on goals by Todd Parker and Tim Foster to take a 3 to 1 lead after the 1st.
The Rinkrats narrowed the score with 6:19 remaining in regulation time on a top shelf blast from Scott Leverman. The goal seem to give them a lift, as they tied it at 3, 58 seconds later on a redirect from Justin Dowding.
Both teams had a few more chances to go ahead before the period ended.
It seemed like overtime was to be played when Huey Lasaga, of the Rinkrats, buried what would be the game winner with 0.07 second remaining in the 2nd period, stunning the Alpines.
The Rinkrat victory gives them 2 points to start the playoffs, while the Alpines will have to regroup in their next game.

Thursday night had the 1st place and defending Lake City Cup Champions, Your Fathers Moustache taking on the 5th seed Realty Partners.
The Moustache jumped out to a 2 to 0 first period lead on goals by Craig MacDonald and Sean Fraser. Realty Partners rallied back with 2 goals 58 seconds apart, with less than 3 minutes remaining. Michael Crawley and Clayton Rogers tying it at 2 after the 1st period.
YFM's Aaron Akitt put them back in front at the 12:35 mark of the 2nd, only to have the Partners' Michael Crawley score his 2nd of the game, 33 seconds later.
Jeff Camery of the Moustache scored a go ahead goal with 4:57 remaining in regulation time and again the Partners tied it, with Clayton Rogers notching his 2nd of the game a minute and 22 seconds later.
This game didn't have any last second hero's and off to overtime they went.
Realty's Jeff Kielbratowski took a cross checking minor with 2:00 minutes remaining on OT and the Moustache took advantage when Neal Pashkoski blasted the game winner under goaltender Keith Walters with only 36 seconds remaining.

The Moustache gained 2 points for the victory and move into a 1st place tie with the Rinkrats.
The Realty Partners pick up a big 1 point for the OT loss, that 1 point could be huge as the round robin part of the playoffs contiue.

The 3rd seed Secunda Mariners and 6th place Wild Turkey's with start next week, due to the Mariner unable to ice a team during the school's March Break.
