Blitzed, League Record ?

2004-02-27

As HRM continues to dig itself out from last Thursday's blizzard, the League started up again on Tuesday. The first game saw the front running Sandtrap Chiefs down T.J. Devils 6 to 4. Two goals each by Roddy MacCormick and Mark Walsh, helped lead the Chiefs to victory. Scott Hughes tallied a pair for the Devils. In the nightcap, the 2nd place Secunda Mariners kept pace with the Chiefs, downing the Dartmouth Alpines 5 to 2. Mariners' defenceman Jeff Thompson powered home a goal and 2 assists, including the game winner. Uncharacteristically, the Alpines took 7 minor penalties in the game.

Thursday night's games started out with the Big Leagues' Rangers stopping the Fairview Aces 5 to 1. Back from injury, Shane Murphy scored 2 goals and an assist, Jim Morash also contributed with 3 helpers. The second game that night, had Secunda Mariners move to within 1 point of 1st place Sandtrap Chiefs, outscoring Your Fathers Moustache 9 to 5. Mariners' Keifer House once again led the way with 2 goals and 3 assists. Craig MacDonald had 1 goal and 3 assists for the Moustache, in the loss. The final game of the night, the Darmouth Alpines took on Scotiabank. After Scotiabank jumped out to a 1 to 0 lead, the Alpines blitzed Scotiabank, scoring 3 goals in 13 seconds in the first period. The first at 13:12 by Scott MacKinnon, then at 13:05 by Chris Boutilier and last by Glen MacDonald, at 12:59. Unfortunately the League does not keep track of such records, but if it did, that one would be right up there. Scoring continued aplenty, as the Alpines thumped Scotiabank 9 to 5. A hattrick and 2 assists by Chris Boutilier and 2 goals, 3 assists by Glen MacDonald led the Alpines to their victory. Troy Stevens popped in 2 goals and an assist for Scotiabank.
