27th Season About to begin.

2008-10-08

The Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League starts it's 27th season on Tuesday, October 14. The Rinkrats play the Secunda Mariners at 9:00pm followed by a rematch of the 2008 Lake City Cup Final as the Dartmouth Alpines take on cup champions Moose Light Shamrocks at 10:15pm. The possibility of playing a couple more games, is in the works. A proposal from a military hockey team has offered to play against the teams in our league on Sunday evenings. They would supply the ice at no charge to our league and the league would supply the timekeeper and on ice officals. The games and stats would count to teams and it's players. The games would our our rules. Each team would play against them twice during the season. They do not want to join the league, they enter a cross country tournament each year and they are looking for competitive teams to play against. If this is to happen, the league would need all of it's franchises to agree to play them. This year's budget has increased due to price increases from the Dartmouth Sportsplex, $10.00 more an hour bring it up $205.00 per hour or $512.50 per night. The other increase come from the on ice officals, $4.00 more per hour, bringing their total to $54.00 per hour or $135.00 a night for two referees. There is two budgets done up, the first one is going on a 20 game schedule. Total league cost is $33,230.00 divided by our seven teams is $4,750.00 per team. The second budget includes the 14 games against the the military team, giving each team a 22 game schedule. League cost is $34,530.00, divided by seven is $4,935.00 per team. Rule proposal from Your Fathers Moustache. They would like a change to our mercy rule, it currently runs as follows - If there is a 5 goal diferential the last 10 minutes of the 2nd period would run straight time, if the score should narrow only the last 2 minutes would go back to stop time. The Moustache propose that if the score should narrow that the clock would go back to stop time right away. Good Luck to all of our teams and players in the upcoming season.
