Goals 'r' Us.

2008-10-18

The 27th season of the Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League began this week with goals a plenty. Recap of Tuesday's Rinkrats vs Mariners, Shamrocks vs Alpines and Thursday's Moustache vs Canadians, Rinkrats vs Rangers. More info on games against CFB team.

The first week of the Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League's 27th season began with 47 goals being scored in just 4 games. Goaltenders must be wondering if there is such a thing as defence anymore, while the offence looks in mid-season form.

The season opener, on Tuesday, had the Rinkrats taking on the Secunda Mariners. The Mariners already with plenty of fire power added Bruno Carpointier and Rob Sneath to their arsenal to lift them to a 10 to 7 shootout over the 'Rats.
The 08-09 version of the Rinkrats came out skating and jumped to a 3 - 0 lead just under 7 minutes old on goals by Craig Stevens, Scott Leverman and Chris MacNeil. Secunda began to settle the game down and rallied to take a 5 to 4 lead after the 1st period. Keifer House potted a pair along with John Robb, Doug Clarke and Bruno Carpointier adding singles, Robbie Sutherland added the Rinkrats 4th goal.
The scoring did not let up in the 2nd period, with the Mariners adding 5 more goals to their total. Keifer House added 2 more goals giving him 4 on the game and chipped in with a couple of helpers, also scoring in the 2nd was Derek Taylor, Graeme Power and Ian Marshall. The Rinkrats kept pace with the Mariners throughout the game and fired 3 of their own in the 2nd, by Craig Perrin with 2 and Robbie Sutherland with his 2nd of the game.

The second game of the night had a rematch of the 2008 Lake City Cup finalist. The Dartmouth Alpines managed a little revenge from the Moose Light Shamrocks sweep, with a 8 to 5 victory.
Alpines'  Ian Sullivan and Todd Parker led the way with a pair of goals each, while Scott MacKinnon, Peter Gallant, Jay Washington and Graham McLeod buried singles.
The Shamrocks replied with goals from Kinnon Kendziora, Rick Findlay, Trevor Doyle, Paul Wright and Jason Troini.

Thursday night had Your Fathers Moustache thump the Scotian Canadians 6 to 1. Last season's leading scorer and MVP Sean Fraser continued where he left off scoring 4 of their 6 goals including a shorthanded and a powerplay goal. Craig MacDonald and Justin Brown rounded out the scoring. Scotian Canadians' Todd Miles fired home their only goal on the powerplay.
The game was tied 1 to 1 after the 1st period, with the Moustache taking over the game with 5 goals in the 2nd.

In the last game of week one, the Rinkrats trashed the Bacardi Rangers 9 to 1.
The Rinkrats, like in their game on Tuesday against the Mariners, came out skating and jumped out to a 6 to 0 lead just under 10 minutes old. Craig Perrin scored the first 2 of his 3, including a shorthanded goal, John Dean, Kevin Hurley Craig Stevens and Scott Leverman added singles in the first. The Rangers' Brian Melanson scoed on a tip in off Dave Hessian's shot rounded out the 1st period scoring.
In the second period, despite being out played by the Rangers, the Rinkrats fired 3 more goals past goaltender Paul Forest. Rob Ritchie, Craig Perrin's hattrick goal and Chris MacNeil's powerplay goal added an exclamation mark to their victory.

In other news, just to follow up on the possibilities of playing against a CFB team. The games will be played on Sunday evenings from 6pm to 8pm at the Shannon Rink. The games will be using our league rules and will count in our league standings. We need to have all 7 teams to agree to these games to make it work. Each of our 7 teams would play against the CFB team twice during the regaulr season. They are giving us free ice cost and we as a league would pay for the timekeeper and referees. The games have 2 hours to play and there will be a Zamboni flood after the first period.

Please let me know what your team wants to do so we can either add this to our schedule and budget or move on. If we don't have all 7 teams participating in this it will not work for our league and if that is the case I told them that I would give them the names of teams in our league that would like to play, so they can arrange some exibition games. If players have any questions let your team rep know and he can call me.
