Goalies Working Overtime

2004-03-12

This week starts off with the results of a protest by the Fairview Aces against the Big Leagues' Rangers. In a game between the two teams, a 5 to 1 win for the Rangers back on Feb.26, the Rangers were found guilty of using suspended player Renny Hickey, serving a 1 game suspension for a game misconduct he received in their game Feb. 17 against the Sandtrap Chiefs. As a result the Fairview Aces are awarded the win. With 2 points taken away from the Rangers, this now gives 6th place Scotiabank a chance to catch Big Leagues for 5th spot. Scotiabank started the week by doubling up on the T.J. Devils 8 to 4. Scotiabank were led by Danny Brewer's 3 goals, 1 assist and Allen Coyle's 3 goal performances, to move to within 1 point of the Rangers. Rhail Arsenault replied with a pair of goals for the Devils. In the nightcap the 1st place Sandtrap Chiefs finished off their regular season with a 5 to 3 victory over Your Fathers Moustache. Shane Gibbs of the Chiefs led the attack with 3 assists. Craig MacDonald popped in 2 goals for the Moustache. The loss eliminated any chance of them catching the 7th place Fairview Aces. As for the Chiefs, they now must wait to see if the Secunda Mariners will catch them for 1st place.

Thursday night started out with a must win for Scotiabank, to have any chance for 5th place. Dan Guindon of Scotiabank, scored a hattrick and added 2 helpers in a 6 to 3 win over Your Fathers Moustache. The win temporarily moves Scotiabank into 5th place, 1 point ahead of Big Leagues. Your Fathers Moustache in need of a goaltender for this game picked up Aces' goalie Trevor Umlah. The second game of the night saw the Dartmouth Alpines whitewash Big Leagues' Rangers 6 to 0. Two goals each by Glen MacDonald and Jay Washington led the assault for the Alpines. Dartmouth's Graham MacLeod picked up his 1st shutout of the season, while the Rangers used the Devils' Jamie O'Donnell in goal. In the late game, the Secunda Mariners started their climb to catch the Chiefs with a 7 to 6 victory over the Fairview Aces. Mariners' Shawn Doyle had a goal and 3 assists in the win, Steve Widmeyer also helped out with 4 assists and Keifer House widened his League Points lead with a hattrick. Secunda used the Alpines' Graham MacLeod in goal, his second game of the night, also in his second game of the night was Aces' Trevor Umlah.

With only two games remaining in the Regular Season, next Tuesday's first game will settle all the playoff positions and Quarter Final matchups, as the Big Leagues' Rangers take on the Secunda Mariners. Both teams are trying to move up in the standings, Secunda trailling the Sandtrap Chiefs by 1 point, need only a tie to claim the Presidents Trophy for 1st place overall. The same can be said for the Rangers, needing only a tie to clinch 5th place. All we know as of now is the Dartmouth Alpines will finish 3rd, the T.J. Devils 4th, the Fairview Aces 7th and Your Fathers Moustache will finish in 8th place.
