Chiefs Go On, Alpines Prolong

One series started, another finished and a third will be continued. That is how Thursday night's games played out at the Dartmouth Sportsplex. Your Fathers Moustache (8th) taking on Secunda Mariners (1st) in game one of their best of three Quarter Final. A pair of shorthanded goals, was all the scoring in the first period. Mariners opened the scoring on a shorthanded goal by Scott Pellerine, followed by Jim Copeland's shorthanded goal for Your Fathers Moustache. Andy Clark of Secunda scored his first of two, less than a minute into the second period. The Moustache tied the game on a goal by Mark MacNeil at the 14:57 mark. It was all Mariners after that, as they scored five unanswered goals to thump Your Fathers Moustache 7 to 2. Other goal scorers for the Mariners were Chris Kelly, game winner, Shawn Doyle, Keifer House and Steve Widmeyer. Keifer House also chipped in with three assists.

Game two of the best of three Quarter Final had the Sandtrap Chiefs eliminate the Fairview Aces from the Playoffs, downing the Aces 7 to 2. Chiefs' Gord Dickie scored his second hattrick of the series and had a couple of helpers to lead Sandtrap to the series sweep. Roddy MacCormick, Trevor Doyle, Brian McIntoch and Paul Wright rounded out the scoring for the Chiefs. Matt Iceton and team captain Steve Lawlor replied for Fairview. Gord Dickie had 6 goals, including 2 game winners and a shorthanded goal, plus 3 assists for 9 points in the 2 game series.

The Darmouth Alpines evened their best of three series at one, blanking the Big Leagues' Rangers 3 to 0. Peter Gallant scored a shorthanded goal seven minutes and twenty seconds into the game, which would end up being the game winner. Dwight Lucas added a powerplay goal, to give the Alpines a 2 to 0 lead heading into the second period. Dartmouth's Todd Parker finished off the scoring with his first of the series at 13:37. Graham MacLeod earned his first shutout of the Playoffs. The Rangers missing three defencemen from their lineup, ran into penalty trouble, taking 7 minor penalties in the game.

The League takes a week off as the Women's World Hockey Championships move into Halifax/Dartmouth, Go Canada Go!
