Alpines Blitz Mariners, Final Tied

The Dartmouth Alpines evened the Lake City Cup Final at one game each, with an 8 to 5 victory over the Secunda Mariners.

The Alpines came out and blitzed the Mariners early and often, jumping out to a 4 to 0 lead. Chris Boutilier started the scoring with his third of the playoffs at 18:59 of the first period. Only 46 seconds later the Alpines made it 2 to 0 on a goal by Darren Welsh. Dartmouth continued to pressure Secunda and increased their lead to 4 to 0 on goals by Scott MacKinnon at 15:08 and Peter Gallant at 10:42. Steve Widmeyer scored his fifth of the Playoffs to get the Mariners on the scoreboard at 5:46. Jeff Bigelow scored just 5 seconds into a powerplay at 4:31, that was followed  38 seconds later by Jay Washington's goal to give the Alpines a 6 to 1 lead. Secunda managed to score once more before the first period ended on Keifer House's sixth goal of the Playoffs to trail the Alpines 6 to 2 after one.

Secunda Mariners came out early in the second period, trying to make a game of it with goals by Chris Kelly at the 18 minute mark, followed up by Shawn Doyle's third of the Playoffs a minute and one second later, to close the score to 6 to 4 for the Alpines. At the 13:03 Jay Washington scored his second of the game to open up a three goal lead. Secunda rebounded 42 seconds later on a goal by Jeff Thompson. Dartmouth put up a wall for the remainder of the game and tied the series at one with Dave Fader finishing off the scoring an empty net goal to make the final 8 to 5.

Both teams have agreed to make the best of five Final to a best of three Final due to injuries to both teams goaltenders and player availability in future games. Game Three for the Lake City Cup goes Thursday 22nd at 8:00pm at the Halifax Metro Centre.
