Alpines Threepeat!

2004-04-23

The Dartmouth Alpines are the 2004 Lake City Cup Champions. The Alpines captured their 3rd straight Lake City Cup by defeating the Secunda Mariners 4 to 1 in the third and deciding game.

Glen MacDonald started the scoring off with his 5th of the Playoffs to give Dartmouth a 1 to 0 lead. Alpines' Dave Fader scored to make it 2 to 0 at the 11:41 mark of the first period, his goal would end up being the Cup winning goal. Secunda Mariners' Jeff Thompson blasted a goal from the point, past goaltender Graham McLeod, a minute and 16 seconds later, to narrow the score to 2 to 1. Alpines restored their two goal lead only 26 seconds later, on Jay Washington's 7th goal of the Playoffs. Alpines ran into penalty trouble when three players went to the box at 9:39, 9:16 and 8:55 plus an extra 2 minutes at 8:01 to a player already in the box for unsportsmanlike. Despite the two man advantage, the Mariners failed to convert on the powerplay. The first period ended with the Dartmouth Alpines leading 3 to 1.

Secunda, try as they would, could not get by the tight checking Alpines in the 2nd period. Dartmouth played it pretty safe in the period, keeping the puck deep in the Mariners zone, chewing up valuable time on the clock, along the boards and having all five players forming a wall at their blue line. Jay Washington scored his 2nd goal of the game with only 1:09 left in regulation time to clinch the championship for the Alpines.

Congratulations to both the Dartmouth Alpines and the Secunda Mariners on their success this past season.
