Mariners Sail to their 6th Lake City Cup

Secunda Mariners Victorious

Game 2 of the Lake City Cup Final; Mariners 2017 Lake City Cup Champions; Jim Morash win 8th Lake City Cup.

Game 2 of the Best of 3 Lake City Cup Final between the Realty Partners Sold Signs and the Secunda Mariners took place Thursday night.

The Mariners up one game to none in the series, started the scoring on an unassisted goal from Mike Malloy 2 minutes and 37 seconds into the game.
Sold Signs kept pace one minute later, as Ryan Boucher buried one past goaltender Andrew Sim.

The period saw both teams going back and forth with chances. Secunda'a Cole Hawes would give the Mariners a 2 to 1 lead with 8:40 remaining in the 1st.

Sold Signs working on their 2nd powerplay of the period, were stung by a great individual effort by Jordan Cox's unassisted shorthanded goal, opening up a 3 to 1 lead after the 1st period.

The 2nd period had both teams exchange chances and it was the Secunda Mariners capitalize on theirs.
Evan Cheverie potting a powerplay goal for the Mariners, followed by a breakaway goal from Brad Ryckmond, giving Secunda a 5 to 1 lead.
Tyler Summers would blast the Mariners second powerplay goal past Sold Signs goaltender Keith Walters. This would be the last goal of the season, as the Secunda Mariners defeated the Realty Partners Sold Signs by the final score of 6 to 1.

The Secunda Mariners would capture their 6th Lake City Cup, having won it back in 2014, 2009, 2007, 2005 and their first in 2001. The championship ties Your Fathers Moustache and the folded Rangers with 6 Lake City Cups each.

Mariners' Jim Morash would win his 8th Lake City Cup, second with the Mariners and first with his son Kyle. Jim's other 6 victories were with the Rangers in 2000, 1999, 1996, 1995, 1994 and 1991.

The MVP of the 2017 Lake City Cup Playoffs was Secunda Mariners' Evan Cheverie. 
Evan in 2 games in the Round Robin would score 6 goals and 2 assists for 8 points. In the Semi Final, again 2 games, would bury 4 goals and add 3 helpers for 7 points. The Lake City Cup Final saw Evan add 3 more goals and 2 assists for 5 points in the 2 games. His Playoff total was 13 goals, 7 assists for 20 points in 6 games.

The Realty Partners Sold Signs, which finished 4th overall during the regular season, played in their first Lake City Cup Final. Despite losing in 2 straight games, they gave the Mariners a good compitition, just unable to finish their chances. Their playoff sucess gives them something for them to build on for next season.
