League cut in half, 3 franchises fold. 2017-18 Format. Schedule now posted. New Entrance to Sportsplex.

Hello Gentlemen,
First, I like to thank John Robb, Kody and Kyle Cuvelier and Rob Ritchie and the players of the Secunda Mariners, Your Fathers Moustache and Realty Partner Rinkrats for their commitment to Lake City Hockey.
I would be remiss if I did not thank Jeff Lockhart of the Dartmouth Alpines, Scott Sheffer with the Wild Turkey’s and Peter MacKay of the Realty Partners Sold Signs for the hard work each did with their teams over the years.

It is truly a sad time for the League to lose 3 out of 6 teams all at once.
Dartmouth Alpines 20 Seasons, 8 - 1st Place Finishes, 5 Lake City Cup Victories, 9 Lake City Cup Final appearance. Wild Turkey’s 17 Seasons, 1 – 1st Place Finish. Realty Partner Sold Signs 6 Seasons, 1 Lake City Cup Final appearance.

Although we had some inquires about joining the League from some teams, nothing materialized.

The three remaining teams have agreed to continue for this season. The teams will play a 16 game regular season, playing each other a total of 8 times.
  • Games will be played on Tuesday from 9:30pm to 11:00pm and Thursday from 9:30pm to 11:00pm. One team will play twice in one week; example Tuesday Mariners vs Rinkrats, Thursday Moustache vs Mariners.
  • Because we have to rent an hour and a half to get in 2 twenty minute stop time periods, it on average takes 60 minutes to play and the Sportsplex hourly rental is only 50 minutes. That being said we will play 2 - 25 minute stop time periods. This will use up our time we are paying for.
  • Playoffs would go with a Round Robin format where each team would play each other 2 times for a total of 4 games.
  • The Top 2 teams from the Round Robin would face each other in the Best of 5 Lake City Cup Final.
  • All other rules of the League would continue; Mercy Rule, Overtime, eligibility and so on.
  • With everything worked out the League would start on Tuesday, October 10th and go to Thursday, December 21st before taking the Holiday break and start up again Tuesday, January 2nd. The Round Robin would start on Tuesday, January 9th and finish January 25th. The Lake City Cup Final would start Tuesday January 30th and if going the maximum, would finish Tuesday, February 13th.
Looking at the positives for the upcoming season;
  • The League survives another season.
  • All games are from 9:30pm to 11:00pm, no late games.
  • One team will play twice every third week.
  • Games longer in length.
  • 3 competitive teams remain.
  • Season ends before March Break, always a headache in the past.
The new entrance and parking to the Sportsplex is at the far end by the Scotiabank bank and enter through just past the Sportsplex chimney.
