Schedule up. League meeting minutes. Canadians nip Moustache 6-5. Rinkrats out last Rangers 8-5.

The 2009-10 Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League regular season schedule is now up on our site, please read schedule carefully. The league again is going with 7 teams; Moose Light Shamrocks are starting their 25th season, Secunda Mariners 24th season, Your Fathers Moustache 22nd season, Bacardi Rangers 20th season, Rinkrats 16th season, Dartmouth Alpines 14th season and Scotian Canadians starting their 9th season.

The league governors held their meeting on October 14th. Attending the meeting were President Kelly Saunders, Alpines' Graham McLeod, Mariners' John Robb, Rangers' Jim Morash, Rinkrats' Rob Ritchie and Shamrocks' Mark Walsh, Canadians and Moustache unable to attend.

The governors went over the league schedule and tentative budget, as well. It was agreed that the center red line will remain out. They also agreed to keep the age of players the same but each team will submit a team roster with year of birth for each player. Any two new players per team have to be 25 years of age by January 1st of each season.

Also brought up was a proposal for a new playoff format. The president has asked team reps to talk over with their team how they would like to see the playoff format.. Some ideas suggested are : keep it the same , instead of first team receiving a first round bye the last place team does not make the playoffs, a round robin format where each team plays the 6 other teams and the top two teams play for the Lake City Cup. The league will look at any other ideas as well. Keep in mind: what is the cost, do we have enough time at the rink to do this format. The league will have a decision by the end of Christmas break.

The 2009-10 season opened Thursday, October 15th with the Scoitan Canadians downing Your Fathers Moustache 6 to 5. The Canadians had 6 different goal scorers. Todd Miles, Jamie Richards, Paul Birmingham, Allen Coyle, Dwayne Coyle, and game winner from Danny Brewer. Sean Fraser of the Moustache fired all 5 goals past Canadians’ goaltender Peter Douglas.

In the nightcap the Rinkrats outlasted the Bacardi Rangers 8 to 5. The Rinkrats had 2 goals each from Matt Kerr, Craig Perrin, and Scott Leverman.   Kevin Hurley and Dave Roode rounded out the scoring for the Rats. The Rangers replied with goals from Mike Reindorf, Richie Holmes, Shane Murphy, Jim Morash, and Kenny Bennett.
