Lake City Turns 30!

2011-10-05

2010 Lake City Cup Champions - Shamrocks

Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League starts it's 30th season. League loses one of it's orginals. League welcomes the Black Ice to the league.

Congratulation, the 2011-12 season is the 30th Anniversary for the Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League.

There will be a new team joining the league this season, for now they will be known as the Black Ice. We like to welcome them to the league and wish them the best of luck and hope they enjoy the competitive hockey that our league has turned out over the years.
The Black Ice will join the Secunda Mariners, in their 26th season, Your Fathers Moustache, 24th season, the Rinkrats 18th season, Dartmouth Alpines 16th season and in their 11th season the Scotian Canadians.

The puck drops on Tuesday, October 11th, when the defending Lake City Cup Champion's Rinkrats host the Secunda Mariners at 9:00pm.  In the nightcap the Dartmouth Alpines will take on the Black Ice at 10:15pm. Thursday, October 13th sees the Scotian Canadians playing Your Fathers Moustache at 9:00pm, followed by the Alpines and Mariners at 10:15pm.

With a new team being added to the league this season, means we lost one, The Bubba Ray's Shamrocks. The Shamrocks started in the league in 1985, known as the Builders Market Hawks. The Shamrocks were the oldest franchises in the league finishing their 26th season in 2010-11. There will be a history article on the Shamrocks, later in the season. I'm a little sad, as I, with Robert Maheux started the franchise many a moon ago and I played 20 of my 21 years with them.

Still working on a budget, but I can tell you the Dartmouth Sportsplex increased the cost of an hour of ice by $5.00 = $215.00 or $537.50 a night.

Last years playoff format was well recieved and we will continue with it again this season. The bottom 3 teams will play the top 3 teams in a first round, Round Robin. The top 4 teams by standings will advance to the Semi- Final, where the lowest team will take on the highest team, with the 2nd and 3rd place teams meeting in the best 2 out of 3 games. Those to winners will challange for the 2012 Lake City Cup.
