2005-01-21

The gap between the top three teams; Sandtrap Chiefs, Dartmouth Alpines and the Secunda Mariners, and the rest of the league widened this week, creating two races heading into the final quarter of the regular season schedule.
Tuesday night had the T.J. Devils end Your Fathers Moustache point streak with a convincing 7 to 4 victory. Devils' Steve Kinch led the way with a hattrick, including an empty net goal. Tony Brenner, Dave Roode, Scott Hughes and Kelly Sebru added singles in the win. Ken McDermit, Mike Shea, Andrew MacVicar and Sean Fraser replied for Your Fathers Moustache. The win moved the Devils to 2 points behind Scotiabank and 3 points behind the Big Leagues' Rangers for 5th and 4th place in the overall standings.
In the late game, Scotiabank fell to the Dartmouth Alpines 6 to 5. The win moved the 2nd place Alpines to 4 points behind 1st place Chiefs, while Scotiabank failed to move up an the Rangers. A goal and 2 assists by Glen MacDonald and Scott Wadden led the Alpines to victory. Chris Boutilier nailed a pair, with Jay Washington and Scott MacKinnon rounding out the scoring for Dartmouth. Scotiabank's Todd Miles scored twice and Doug Mollon, Rodney MacIntoch and Glen Buchanan found the net behind Alpines' Scott MacDonald.

Thursday night went ahead with their games despite the blizzard that hit the city. The league leading Sandtrap Chiefs, like the blizzard, blanked the Big Leagues' Rangers 6 to 0. Chiefs' Jason White collected his second straight shutout, blanked T.J. Devils 4 to 0 last week. The back to back shutouts was a first in the Chiefs 20 year history. Roddy MacCormick found the twine 3 times giving him a league leading 34 goals and 62 points in 14 games, Roddy also collected his 7th game winning goal. Scott Cote, Brian McIntoch and Shane Gibbs added goals, giving the Chiefs a 6 points lead over the Alpines.
The blizzard hit the T.J. Devils as well as they were snowed over by the Secunda Mariners 9 to 1. Secunda's Keifer House powered the storm with 3 goals, including a penalty shot, and 2 assists. Andy Clark and Sandor Fizli each potted a pair, while Dana Drake and Dean Tucker added singles. The win kept the Mariners in the race with the Alpines and Chiefs for 1st place overall and widen the gap over 4th place Rangers to 9 points.
