Chiefs Clinch First Overall

Needing just one more victory to clinch 1st place in the regular season and a 1st round bye in the 2005 Playoffs, the Sandtrap Chiefs had two chances this week to fullfill that need.

The Dartmouth Alpines trailling the Chiefs by 8 points and tied with the Secunda Mariners for 2nd place, started the week by defeating the T.J. Devils 6 to 5 on a late 2nd period goal by Chris Boutilier, with 1:47 remaining. Dwight Lucas scored the Alpines first 3 goals, followed up by Peter Gallant and Jay Washington, before Boutilier's game winner. T.J. Devils' Brad MacDonald scored 2 goals and 1 assist, Scott Hughes, Mike Sanford and Rob Ritchie also replied.
Tuesday's nightcap had the Secunda Mariners keeping pace with the Alpines and holding off the Chiefs chance at clinching 1st place, with a 6 to 5 win over Sandtrap. Mariners' Keifer House led the attack with 2 goals and an assist. Doug Clark, John Robb, Rick Findley and Dana Drake popped in singles for the Mariners. Chiefs responded with 2 goals from Trevor Doyle, with Mark Walsh, Scott Cote and Darryl Braine finding the net once. Chiefs' Roddy MacCormick had 4 assists, bring his league leading point total to 70 points.

The Big Leagues' Rangers put a little space between themselves and Scotiabank by defeating the 'Bank 5 to 1. Reg Bowes led the way scoring 2 goals and a helper, while Richie Holmes, David Naugle and Allen Lake added singles for the victory. Rodney MacIntosh ansewered for Scotiabank.
The second game of Thursday night had the battle for 2nd place with the Alpines taking on the Mariners. Dartmouth's Jay Washington started the scoring, only 56 seconds at the start of the game, 1 minute and 4 seconds later Jay completed the hattrick. Washington would add another goal and chipped in with a couple of assists in the Alpines 7 to 2 thumping of Secunda. Scott MacKinnon found the twine with a pair and 3 helpers, Peter Gallant scored the other Alpines goal. The win moved Dartmouth 2 points up on Secunda and still have a game in hand on the Mariners. Dana Drake and Jeff Crowell replied in the loss.
The last game of the evening had the Sandtrap Chiefs clinch their first league title since 1992-93 season, with a 10 to 6 shootout against Your Father Moustache. The Chiefs with only 8 players were led by Paul Wright who lit the lamp 4 times and chipped in a couple of assists, Roddy MacCormick contributed with 2 goals and 3 assists, Scott Cote with a goal and 5 assists, Darryl Braine 2 goals and 2 assists, Mark Walsh rounded out the scoring for Sandtrap. Your Fathers Moustache had a pair from Justin Brown, Sean Fraser had a goal and 3 assists, Mark MacNeil, Andrew MacVicar and Mike Shea added singles.
