Playoff Time!

2012-02-05

Lake City Cup

Playoff Format; Playoff Eligibility; Playoff Schedule; Budget Update.

The 2012 Lake City Cup Playoffs begin on Tuesday, February 7th with two games. The first round of this season’s playoffs is a Round Robin format, where the 4th, 5th, and 6th place teams in the final regular season standings, will play the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams once. This will give every team 3 games. The games will be played like the regular season. There will be 2 - 20 minute stop time periods, with the mercy rule and overtime in effect. Mercy rule is when one team has a 5 goal differential over the other team; the last 10 minutes of the 2nd period will run straight time. If the losing team should narrow the 5 goal differential, the arena clock will go back to stop time. Overtime will be the same as the regular season, 5 minute straight time period. The only difference is that it will be 5 skaters on 5 skaters instead of 4 on 4.

Each game will be worth 2 points to the winning team and 0 points to the losing team, if done before the end of the regulation time. If a game should go into overtime, both teams will be awarded a single point each. If one team should win in overtime, that team will be awarded with 2 points and the losing team will still be awarded with 1 point. Should the game end in a tie, each team will be awarded 1 point each.

The top 4 teams in the playoff standings will advance to the Best 2 out of 3 Semi-Finals. The bottom two teams will be eliminated from the playoffs.

If any of the teams are tied with the same amount of points in the standings, the tie breakers will be as follows:

1.       Team with the most wins, Playoffs.

2.       Best goals for and against differential, Playoffs.

3.       Head to head during the regular season, with tie breaker rule in effect, if tied.

4.       Head to head in the playoffs, if played against each other.

5.       Team with least amount of penalty minutes during the Playoffs.

6.       If still tied, the team with the higher ranking during the regular season.

Players eligible for the playoffs must have played 9 regular season games. It is up to team reps to notify our timekeeper of players playing in a game. Check team stats for eligibility, game reports are filled out by league staff.
