23rd Regular Season Wraps Up

The final week of the regular season wrapped up with the playoff match-ups settled.
The T.J. Devils trailling 5th place Scotiabank by 3 points had 2 games remaining to Scotiabank's 1.

Tuesday night the Devils took on the Sandtrap Chiefs and fell short in a 9 to 6 loss. The loss secured 6th place and a Quarter Final match-up with 3rd place Secunda Mariners. The Chiefs had 2 goals each from Roddy MacCormick, Mark Walsh and Paul Wright, with Trevor Doyle, Brian McIntoch and Kelly Saunders rounding out the scoring for Sandtrap. Brad MacDonald had a pair, while Danny Puma, Scott Hughes, Steve Kinch and Chris O'Donnell added singles for the Devils.
In the nightcap, the Secunda Mariners out scored the Big Leagues' Rangers 8 to 6. Derek Taylor and Christpher O'Donnell each had a hattrick, with Keifer House popping a pair. The Rangers were led by Reg Bowes 2 goals followed by Craig Vincent, Mark Whebby, Renny Hickey and Brian Melanson scoring a goal each.

Thursday night had Scotiabank needing a victory for any chance at catching the Rangers for 4th place. The Dartmouth Alpines ended any hope for Scotiabank by defeating them 7 to 4. Jay Washington and Scott MacKinnon each found the net twice, Dwight Lucas, Chris Boutilier and Peter Gallant added 1 each in the victory. Scotiabank responded with goals from Glen Buchanan, Danny Brewer, Don Murray and Doug Mollon.
The Big Leagues' Rangers already securing 4th place, clinched it for sure with a 6 to 5 overtime loss to the Sandtrap Chiefs. The overtime loss gave the Rangers 1 point. Reg Bowes led the scoring for the Rangers with 2, Shane Murphy, Allan Lake and Craig Vincent's hi-light reel goal rounded out the scoring. The Chiefs stole this game trailling by a goal late, pulled their goaltender Jason White and scored with 25 seconds remaining in regulation time. In overtime the Rangers were penalized for too many men and the Chiefs' Bill Morris scored the overtime powerplay goal. Other scorers for Sandtrap were Brian MacIntoch, Mark Walsh, Shane Gibbs, Craig Whynot and Troy Stewart. The Chiefs ended the season with 21 wins and 3 losses.
The final game of the Lake City Gentlemen's Hockey League's 23rd season had the T.J. Devils down Your Fathers Moustache 7 to 5. Rhail Arsenault fired a pair, with Scott Hughes, Scott Fairburn, Chris O'Donnell, Mike Sanford and Tony Breau adding singles for the Devils. Jeff Norrie potted a pair, while Mark MacNeil, Sean Fraser and John Hoage scored for Your Fathers Moustache.

The Best of Three 2005 Lake City Cup Quarter Finals begin next week with 7th place Your Fathers Moustache taking on 2nd place Dartmouth Alpines in Series 'A'. Series 'B' has 6th place T.J. Devils up against 3rd place Secunda Mariners and in the final match-up has 5th place Scotiabank meeting 4th place Big Leagues' Rangers in Series 'C'. 1st place Sandtrap Chiefs receive a 1st round bye.
