Aces' Cold As The Weather

2004-01-16

As Halifax Regional Municipality goes through its coldest temperatures of the season, we find the cold weather not affecting some teams or players. Tuesday night, had the T.J. Devils upend the Secunda Mariners for the second time this season, with a 5 to 2 victory. Hot goaltending by the Devils' Jamie O'Donnell, and a goal and an assists by Kenny Hughes and Joe Kinch secured the win over the first place Mariners. In the second game of the night, the Big Leagues' Rangers had all they could handle against Your Fathers Moustache. Rangers' Steve 'Sudsy' Russell scored the game winner in a 5 to 4 win over the Moustache. Special thanks to Chris Boutilier of the Dartmouth Alpines for sitting in as the League's Timekeeper.

Thursday's opening game had the Dartmouth Alpines rebounding from last weeks loss, thumping Scotiabank 8 to 3.  Dave Fader and Todd Parker, each with a goal and 3 assists, helped the Alpines in this contest. In the middle game we had the Mariners blast  the Fairview Aces 7 to 1. Andrew Hawrylak carried the hot stick for Secunda, scoring 2 goals and 3 helpers. Slump continues, as the Aces are as cold as the weather. Fairview have lost 6 straight games and have been outscored 44 to 12 during that period. In the nightcap the Sandtrap Chiefs kept pace with the first place Mariners downing the Big Leagues Rangers 4 to 1. Rangers scored with just 3 seconds left in the game to break Jason White's shutout bid. The victory keeps the Chiefs one point behind the Mariners for first overall, plus have a game in hand.
