2014-04-08

Mariners' Dean Tucker tries to screen Rinkrats goaltender Tyler Raulo.

Game 2 of the Semi Finals; Mariners move on to the Lake City Cup Finals after elminating the Rinkrats in two straight games; Moustache force a third and deciding game, with a 4 to 3 victory over the Wild.

Game 2 of both Semi Finals took place on Tuesday, with the Secunda Mariners holding a 1 game to 0 lead on the Realty Partner Rinkrats and the surprising Wild Turkey's up on the defending Lake City Cup Champions' Your Fathers Moustache 1 to 0.

The early game had the veteran Mariners jump out to a 1 to 0 lead with 3:18 left in the first period, on a goal by Jason Troini, his 3rd of the playoffs.
The 2nd period started with the Rinkrats' Jeff Sanford awarded a penalty shot, but was stopped by Secunda's goaltender Andrew Sim. Less than a minute later Troni is awarded a penalty shot and makes no mistake, going high on 'rats goaltender Tyler Raulo, giving the Mariners a 2 to 0 lead.
Just under halfway mark of the 2nd period Graeme Power roofs one past Raulo to make it 3 to 0, on a nice drop pass from Dean Tucker.
With time slipping away on the Rinkrats season, they begin a push and are rewarded with 8:34 remaining on a goal by Kevin Prfrey, cutting the lead to 3 to 1.
Try as they may they could not get another one past Sim and Steve Widmeyer would add an empty netter to advance the Secunda Mariners back to the Lake City Cup Finals.
The loss for the Rinkrats is the first time in the last 5 seasons they did not make the Finals.

In the nightcap the defending Lake City Cup Champions had some work to do if they were to repeat as champions.
Down 1 game to 0 to the surprising Wild Turkey's, after they won Game 1, 2 to 1 in a shootout.
The Wild opened the scoring less then 3 minutes into the game on a goal by Derek Stevens.
The Moustache would tie it at 1 less then 2 minutes later on Jamie MacVicar's goal. Wild Turkey's and regular season team's leading scorer Todd Miles put them up 2 to 1 at the 7:20 mark of the 1st period.
YFM would score 2 goals 15 seconds apart, the first one to Sean Fraser, followed up by Brad Stewart, giving them their first lead of the game and the series. The 1st period would end at 3 to 2 for the 'stache.
Your Fathers Moustache opened up a 2 goal lead, with a breakaway from Craig MacDonald from center ice.
Todd Miles would add his second of the game with 2:48 remaining in regulation time, as they put pressure on Moustache's goaltender Todd Bengert.
Wild continued to pour it on and pulled their goaltender Greg Aucoin late, but could not get the tying goal.

The 4 to 3 victory by Your Fathers Moustache forces a third and deciding game on Thursday, to see who will face the Secunda Mariners for the 2014 Lake City Cup.
